Bear Creek Golf Experience
Bear Creek is proud and excited to showcase our Golf Course, as it is among the top of a select group of Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf and Country Clubs around the world. In the early 1980’s when Jack decided to create a new golf property in Southern California worthy of his signature, he searched for an ideal site. His search led him to the nature-blessed Temecula Valley and the neighboring Santa Rosa Plateau. It was here that Bear Creek Golf Club was to emerge.
Fashioned after the classic golf courses of Scotland, the property was constructed to the strictest standards, under the personal supervision of Jack Nicklaus. The natural terrain of rolling hills, four streams and two lakes present a perfect site. Comparatively little of the natural terrain was disturbed and minimal grading was required. Special attention was given to the 200-year old oak trees that dot the course. In some areas, a whole line of play was redesigned to save one tree.
Nicklaus drew inspiration for Bear Creek’s unique design from his commitment to preserve our more than 225 mature California oak trees. Additionally, he was determined to make certain his design harmonized with the environment and our California life-style.
Jack also designed and built our spectacular Clubhouse incorporating a traditional, yet casual concept that included several desirable amenities – fine dining, an informal grill, men’s and women’s locker rooms and a fully staffed Pro Shop. All of which exists in an inviting atmosphere of well crafted quality and comfort.
Bear Creek Golf Club is the premier, private, equity-Membership Club in the beautiful Temecula/Murrieta Valley that justifiably boasts a 7,154 yard, 72-par tournament caliber world-class Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. A course that continually challenges its players while rewarding them with lush emerald fairways, shimmering lakes and majestic century old oak trees. Both nines loop through the oaks and play along barrancas and lakes over our dramatic terrain. Nicklaus’ use of distinctively chiseled bunkers and terraced greens make Bear Creek a beautiful and challenging expression of his design expertise.
Never more challenging, Bear Creek’s signature hole number four, offers a stunning 415 yard, 3rd handicap par 4 confrontation. This exceptional dual fairway is highlighted by penalizing bunkers, dramatic vistas and a double tier green. To accentuate the extreme difficulty of this Nicklaus masterpiece, a creek meanders through the heavily wooded fairway directly in front of the punishing green.

Greens offer Bentgrass/Poa Annua, tees are sodded with luxury Pennlinks Bentgrass, fairways are Sun Devil Bermuda and roughs are Jackpot Bermuda. Bunkers are filled with specially formulated Caltega Series white sand and are contoured and shaped with grass on the interior slopes.
In 1985, after developing his newest golf jewel, Nicklaus, joined by Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Fuzzy Zoeller, formally introduced Bear Creek Golf Course to the public by hosting the nationally televised PGA Skins Game.
Bear Creek also serves as the home for prestigious tournaments including the U.S. Open Qualifier.
